It turns out my mom had a nice surprise for me coming home for Easter. She bought pillows and a new bed cover to update the design of our renovated farmhouse bedroom, so when I entered the room, I was so happy with this look I wanted to share it with you guys to get some inspiration! In this post, I will explain how we renovated the bedroom using wood pallets, iron stakes and our old vintage furniture!
(Disclaimer: The links are affiliate, the photos, the experiences and the opinions are my own. I only link products I’ve actually used.)
But first, let’s take a look into the bedroom.
I lifted the bed cover up and fastened it there so that you can see the wood pallets. We used two layers of pine wood pallets, which we painted with dark brown wood stain. It’s important to paint your wood with a which lets the wood “breathe”, otherwise it will look fake and cheap, plus it will also start to “kick out” the color sooner or later, so you’ll have a destroyed surface you cannot paint again. We chose a semi-transparent dark walnut tint, with which we painted the pallets twice to achieve this effect. The pallets serve as bedside table from the other side of the bed!
To create a canopy bed effect, we placed the curtain track on the wall above the bed heading and we connected the curtain to the curtain rod above the window which is in front of the bed. You can see the curtain valance with pom poms above the bed. Our old curtain had already a pom pom balls lace attached to it, but it’s something you can buy and sew it on your own using a sewing machine.
To achieve this curving effect, we used the thinnest metal wire and attached pearls to it make it look like a wreath. We stabilized the pearls using glue (not the pro way, but it works). Well, I don’t know if it actually looks like a wreath, I’m just sharing our initial purpose! I think that, in real life, these small mistakes and imperfections are what makes our homes cozy and warm, creating nice memories we share with our family over a cup of warm coffee on a rainy afternoon.
Let me show our DIY Garderobe. We created it using a metal ladder shelf we painted black and a wooden plate. We connected the ladder to the plate with screws and the plate to the wall using two very strong angle brackets.
We attached a vintage curtain valance with lace to the wooden plate with thumbtacks, and it was actually a lot easier as we initially thought!
I’ve also created a color palette and mood board for this bedroom! My mom bought these cushions and the blanket from a small shop in Heraklion, Greece. We found these silky red sheets in Amazon, where I also found a pillow cover like the rose gold velvet one and some cute fluffy cushions!
I am so excited about this bedroom and so happy I could share this excitement with you guys! I really hope you could get some inspiration from this post! Share your thoughts in the comments!
